Senior Portfolio Credit Risk Manager
As a Senior Portfolio Credit Risk Manager you will be part of a team dedicated to investment risk management activities in support of Aegon Asset Management’s (AAM) portfolios. The role is part of the Portfolio Risk Management (PRM) department, a second line team consisting of 17 investment-focused risk professionals located across four offices in three countries. This role will initially be based in The Hague, but will move to Amsterdam when the business relocates in Q2 2025. You will report to the European Head of Portfolio Risk Management.
You are responsible for the full value chain in our credit risk management process, from risk identification, risk monitoring and risk measurement to active challenge of portfolio management and risk reporting, predominantly across the Alternative Fixed Income (Alt FI) portfolio range with around €80 billion AUM. You will be responsible for the continual enhancement and adherence to credit risk standards and policies.
To succeed in this role you have excellent verbal and written communication skills and know how to engage with different stakeholders to ensure you can represent the team both inside the organization and towards clients. Extensive knowledge of credit risk is required to provide credit reviews, discussions and challenge. This is a great senior role for someone who likes to combine technical knowledge with a key representative role within Aegon Asset Management.
Key Responsibilities
- Assessing and approving front office credit ratings according to methodologies typically set by S&P and Moody’s credit risk frameworks.
- Analysing and challenging credit proposals in credit committees pre investment across a range of Alt FI strategies including, but not limited to capital calls, NAV finance, renewable infrastructure, SME and mid cap direct lending, bank loans and private placements.
- Ongoing oversight of credit related risks across the portfolio range including assessing watch lists, covenant breaches and other credit related events including second line risk involvement during restructurings.
- Assess impact of new credit proposals on overall portfolios’ structural risk and develop analysis and reporting to assess portfolio credit sensitivities to inflation, cyclicality and risk concentration.
- Engaging with portfolio managers and investment team heads to further develop credit risk reporting, modelling and value add analysis.
- Updating senior management periodically with key management information on credit trends and key credit performance indicators.
- Maintain strong knowledge of macroeconomic environment and market conditions and associated impact on credit risk.
- Perform ad-hoc risk analysis projects as required by prospects, clients, front office and other internal users of credit risk analysis.
- Ability to present AAM’s credit risk framework in commercial pitches and operational due diligence to demonstrate high credit risk standards.
- Analysing portfolios’ credit risks to support front office decision making, product development, sales strategy and client servicing activities.
- Awareness and understanding of market best practice credit risk standards and ability to further develop AAM credit risk framework.
- Compliance with all AAM policies and standards.
Requirements
As a Senior Portfolio Credit Risk Manager you will have the following qualifications;
- Educated to degree level in a quantitative, mathematical or related discipline.
- At least 10+ years of experience in the financial industry, preferable in credit risk management within a bank;
- Strong knowledge of financial markets and credit risk management.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills and excellent problem solving and analytical capabilities.
- Experience of working with and influencing senior stakeholders.
- Ability to work under limited direction to meet agreed targets in some cases within short timelines without compromising on quality.
- CFA, CAIA, PRM or FRM qualifications are advantageous.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel is essential, Power Bi is advantageous.
- Fluent in Dutch and English is preferred.
