IFRS Investment Accounting Specialist

You will be responsible for setting the accounting guidance for new investments by our company, the writing of the accounting position papers for these investments and discussions with our auditor, and the analysis of quarterly IFRS results of the asset side of our balance sheet. You understand complex financial transactions, the related accounting implications as well as our insurance business. This position offers a unique opportunity for career development.

As our Investment Accounting Specialist, you will be responsible for:

• setting standards and guidance for the accounting implications of the developments in our company (specifically investment related) and complex financial transactions and document in accounting position papers
• being the bridge between multiple domains to help drive Athora’s strategic initiatives (like new investments, acquisitions or other developments)
• acting as sparring partner on complex, financial material and strategic subjects towards external stakeholders (e.g. our external accountant)
• playing a key role in the analysis of the quarterly financial results, together with our accounting and reporting department and our actuaries

Job requirements

Technical knowledge and skills required:

• Qualified Accounting professional with at least 8 years of experience in Investment Accounting/ auditing at a financial services company; previous insurance or Big 4 experience is an advantage
• Extended knowledge of financial and capital markets, financial instruments and investments and preferably IFRS 9. Note that we are also looking for a general accounting specialist (focused on IFRS other than IFRS 9); please see the separate job description at Athora Netherlands
• Knowledge of Solvency II is an advantage

Personal capabilities required:

• Strong team player who collaborates easily and effectively across functions and with internal stakeholders, involving technical experts
• Independent minded. Credible in front of internal teams and external stakeholders like the auditor. Confidence to voice opinions and provide constructive challenge, able to convince others and make them part of the solution
• Excellent communication and influencing skills. Verbal, written and listening – English and preferably also in Dutch
• A good sense of humor
